Identiteto dvilypumas egzilyje (Eglės Juodvalkės "Cukraus Kalnas" Ir Irenos Mačiulytės-Guilford "Glėbys")

LTIdentiteto dvilypumo, buvimo tarp dviejų kultūrų problema būdinga kiekvienam, atsidūrusiam svetimoje šalyje, kitoje kultūrinėje terpėje. Tokia situacija - dažnas reiškinys egzilyje, tačiau jaunosios išeivių kartos atstovai egzilį priima ir jį suvokia skirtingai. E. Juodvalkės memuarų veikėja dvikultūriškumą laiko gyvenimo galimybe plėsti akiratį, o I. Mačiulytės-Guilford herojė tai supranta kaip vienareikšmiškai neigiamą, slegiantį ir gniuždantį elementą. Jaunųjų išeivių gyvenimas didžiąja dalimi priklauso nuo tėvų pasirinkimo, jų santykio su lietuvybe. Vienos iš veikėjų tėvas, jausdamas kaltę dėl išėjimo iš gimtojo krašto, bando ją išpirkti per prievartą lietuvindamas dukterį. Pastaroji nepajėgia kovoti už savo individualų gyvenimą, todėl įgyja nevisavertiškumo kompleksą. Visiškai priešingai tokią situaciją priima E. Juodvalkės veikėja - ji perima ir tęsia tėvų pradėtą ir jai įskiepytą lietuvišką gyvenimo būdą. Taigi gyventi visavertį gyvenimą egzilyje įmanoma, bet ne kiekvienam priimtina.

ENAmbivalence of identity, the specific state of being between two cultures is the problem, typical for everyone who arrives in another country and confronts with other cultural environment. Such situation is typical of emigrants, but the generation of emigrants who were born and grew up in America accepts and realizes it differently. The character of E. Juodvalkė memoir accepts the life between two cultures like a chance to expand her horizon. And the character of I. Maciulytė-Guilford novel sees it like a negative phenomenon, which depresses and devastates. The life of junior generation of emigrants depends on the choice of their parents, on the relation with Lithuania. Aldona's father ("The Embrace") feels the blame for leaving his native country, he tries to ransom the blame and to make his daughter live like true Lithuanian against her own will. It is too much for her and she experiences inadequacy. Egle ("The Hill of sugar") experiences her situation conversely. She accepts the Lithuanian way of life inherited from her parents. So it is possible to live normaly in emigration, but it isn't acceptable for everyone.
