Current issues in linguistic theory, vol. 254], skirtas Williamo R. Schmalstiego, žymaus amerikiečių baltisto, indoeuropeisto ir slavisto 75-mečiui. Aptariamoje knygoje, be rengėjų pratarmės bei padėkų (p. IXt.), trumpos Jubiliato mokslinės biografijos, kurią su meile parašė Baldis (p. XI - XXI), ir Jubiliato publikacijų sąrašo (p. XXIII - XLVI), spausdinami 29 straipsniai, kurių autoriai įvairiais ryšiais yra susiję su Schmalstiegu, bičiuliškai vadinamu tiesiog Bilu. Du trečdaliai (20) leidinio publikacijų skirtos baltų kalbotyros klausimams, taip ne tik knygos pavadinimu pagerbiant išskirtinį Jubiliato indėlį į baltistiką. Likusiuose straipsniuose daugiausia nagrinėjamos bendresnio pobūdžio indoeuropeistinės problemos (6), graikų (2) ir keltų (1) filologijos dalykai.

ENThis review deals with the commemorative collection of scientific articles on Baltic and Indoeuropean linguistics: Philip Baldi, Pietro U. Dini (eds.), Studies in Baltic and Indo-European linguistics. In honor of William R. Schmalstieg, Amsterdam/ Philadelphia: John Benjamins, 2004, XLVI, 302 pp. [Amsterdam studies in the theory and history of linguistic science. Series IV. Current issues in linguistic theory, vol. 254], in the honor of 75 anniversary of William R. Schmalstieg, famous American scholar studying Baltic and Indoeuropean and Slavic languages. The book contains the preface by the producers, acknowledgments (p. IXt.), short scientific biography of the celebrant written by Baldis (p. XI - XXI), the list of publications by the celebrant (p. XXIII - XLVI), and 29 articles the authors of which are in one way or another related to Schmalstieg which is called just Bill by the friends. Two thirds (20) of the articles in the publication deal with the issues of Baltic linguistics thus honoring the exceptional contribution by the celebrant to the Baltic studies. The rest of the articles deals with the more general Indo-European issued (6), and subjects of Hellenic (2) and Celtic (1) philology.
