Summary / Abstract:

LTStraipsnyje daugiau dėmesio skiriama Pažaislio fundatoriaus ir mecenato Kristupo Zigmanto Paco (1621-1684) kultūrinei aplinkai, kur nemažą vaidmenį vaidino politiniai akcentai ir… moterys. K.Z. ENThe article dedicates more attention to the cultural environment of Kristupas Zigmantas Pacas (1621 – 1684), the patron of Pažaislis, in which a significant role was played by the political accents and…women. K. Z. Pacas was married to Klara Isabelle de Mailly, the first lady of the court of the ruler Maria Ludovika. He became a close comrade and advisor to both Jan II Casimir Vasa and, later Michel Korybut, despite the fact that his policies and the rulers’ intentions were quite frequently different. Later K. Z. Pacas was appointed the chancellor of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, i. e. the ruler’s right-hand man for the affairs of the Grand Duchy. His wife’s connections helped his career a lot. Countess Felicita Maximiliana Tautmannsdorf was buried in Pažaislis in 1676. Little is known about her however K. Z. Pacas, who take great care of his relative’s Mikalojus Pacas’s wedding with Tautmannsdorf, in 1675 proclaimed her the first lady of the queen’s court. The third woman in K. Z. Pacas’s life was related not to his life achievements and pleasures, but rather to heavenly patronage. The woman is St. Maria Magdalena de Pazzi, who, although there are doubts regarding her relation with the Pac family of Lithuania, remained one of the saint patrons of the chancellor for a long time. Women’s influence in the society of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania has been little studied, which was first of all determined by the strong position of the men’s elite of the period. Women most frequently remained chaperones of rulers and noble persons and were doomed to remain in the shade. The article attempts to show that women’s influence sometimes was inevitably needed for the most prominent nobles.
