Evidence against monostylism in language loss situations: subject focus constructions in American lithuanian

LTŠiame straipsnyje yra nagrinėjama rašytinė Amerikos lietuvių kalba ir parodoma, kad kalbos nykimo procesas nesibaigia monostilizmu, bet pasižymi variacijomis, būdingomis nykimo proceso nepaliestoms kalboms. Skirtingai nuo normaliai funkcionuojančių kalbų, šios variacijos yra gana ribotos dėl sumažėjusių funkcijų, kurias atlieka nykstanti kalba emigracijoje. Aiškinant kalbos nykimo priežastis, straipsnyje yra taip pat liečiamas superstrato kalbos įtakos klausimas. OVS konstrukcijų analizė Amerikos lietuvių rašytinėje kalboje rodo, kad vien anglų kalbos įtaka Amerikos lietuvių kalbai negali paaiškinti šių konstrukcijų vartosenos pakitimų. Straipsnyje lyginamos OVS konstrukcijos rašytinėje Amerikos lietuvių kalboje su jų vartojimu rašytinėje dabartinėje lietuvių kalboje. Ši analizė rodo, kad kalbos funkcijų, kurias atlieka kalba emigracijoje, sumažėjimas yra viena iš svarbiausių priežasčių, veikiančių kalbos kitimą.

ENThe article examines the written language of the American Lithuanians and shows that the process of disappearance of the language is not limited to mono-stylism but rather manifests with variation, characteristic of the languages, not influenced by the process of disappearance. Differently from the normally functioning languages, the variations are rather limited due to the reduced functions, performed by the disappearing language in expatriation. When explaining the reasons for disappearance of the language, the article also tackles upon the issue of the influence of the superstratum language. The analysis of the OVS structures in the written language of the American Lithuanians shows that the influence of the English language on the language of the American Lithuanians alone cannot explain the changes of the use of the structures. The article compares the OVS structures in the written language of the American Lithuanians with their use in the present-day written Lithuanian language. The analysis shows that the reduction of the language functions, performed by a language in expatriation is one of the most important reasons, influencing the development of the language.
