ENMuch attention has recently been given to studies of differences between male and female speech. Speech itself rather than forms recorded in dictionaries or grammars is now considered to be the object of research. According to the article, female speech is more emotional, women choose language forms common among people of higher social status, and their speech is more correct. Male speech is characterised by local dialects, speech patterns common among people of lower social status, and more aggressive style of speaking. Such linguistic privileges of men are linked with their social privileges. Male and female speech differs depending on their cultural environment.
