Lietuvos pinigas - litas

LTStraipsnyje autorius išsako savo griežtą nuomonę dėl siūlymo mažinti lito vertę, teigdamas, kad "pinigų atpiginimas vėl įstumtų taip sunkiai įgyvendintą ir pastovų krašto pinigą į spekuliacijos ir eksperimentų sūkurį, o tai mažam kraštui yra pavojinga ". Autorius glaustai aprašo sunkumus, kuriuos patyrė Lietuvos ūkis prieš įvedant litą, apibūdina Lietuvos banko vaidmenį įtvirtinant litą, kaip nacionalinę valiutą, ir užtikrinant pasitikėjimą šia valiuta tiek šalies, tiek ir tarptautiniu mastu, taip pat pateikia duomenų, iš kurių matyti, kad įvedus litą atsigavo Lietuvos pinigų ir kredito rinka, sustiprėjo jos ekonomika. Pasisakydamas prieš lito nuvertinimo šalininkus (šiuo klausimu buvo plačiai diskutuojama spaudoje), kurie ypač suaktyvėjo Didžiosios depresijos laikotarpiu, autorius pateikia rimtų argumentų, įrodančių šio žingsnio klaidingumą ir žalą Lietuvos ūkiui. Straipsnis aktualus ir šiandien. Skaitytojai ras jame daug originalių pastebėjimų, kurie tinka ir dabarties sąlygoms, prisimenant, kaip visiškai neseniai dar buvo reikalaujama litą nuvertinti ir taip "paspartinti" Lietuvos ekonomikos plėtrą. ENPovilas Kopustinkas (1902-1966) is a famous economist, publicist and educator of inter-war Lithuania. In the article, the author expresses his strict opinion about the proposal to decrease the value of the litas stating that "cheapening of the currency would again push the national currency, implemented with so much difficulty and stable, into a hurricane of speculation and experimentation, which poses a threat to a small country". The author briefly describes the difficulties the economy of Lithuania had faced before the introduction of the litas, defines the role of the Bank of Lithuania in the establishment of the litas as the national currency and ensuring confidence in this currency domestically and internationally; also, provides data witnessing to the recovery of Lithuania's money and credit markets and strengthening of the country's economy subsequent to the introduction of the litas. Coming out against the advocates of devaluation of the litas (the issue was extensively discussed in the media), who became particularly active in the period of the Great Depression, the author provides serious arguments proving the erroneousness of this step and the harm it makes to the economy of Lithuania. The paper remains urgent nowadays. The reader will find therein a number of original insights which are true in the present environment, remembering that just a little time ago devaluation of the litas was required willing thereby "to accelerate" the development of Lithuanian economy.
