Summary / Abstract:

LTGarsaus LDK karo vado ir valstybės veikėjo Jono Karolio Chodkevičiaus (1560-1621) asmeninė biblioteka beveik netyrinėta. Vilniaus universiteto bibliotekoje surasta 12 knygų su rankraštiniais J. K. Chodkevičiaus nuosavybės įrašais. Tai XVI a. antrosios pusės-XVII a. pradžios istoriniai ir karybos veikalai, kronikos, antikos autorių raštai. Į Vilniaus universiteto biblioteką knygos pateko kartu su donaciniu LDK didikų Sapiegų rinkiniu "Bibliotheca Sapiehana". Matyt, J. K. Chodkevičiaus duktė Ona, 1620 m. ištekėjusi už Jono Stanislovo Sapiegos, dalį bibliotekos bus gavusi kaip kraitį. Šios knygos apibūdina bibliotekos savininką kaip plačios erudicijos, išsilavinusią, bibliofilinių polinkių asmenybę. [Iš leidinio]

ENThe article deals with the fate of the private library of Joannes Carolus Chodkiewicz (1560-1621), the Elder of Samogitia (1599-1616), Field Hetman of the Army of Lithuania (1600-1605), Administrator of Livonia (1603-1621), Grand Hetman (1605-1621), and Palatine of Vilnius (1616-1621). He led armies against the Swedes, Russians and Turks, and was one of the outstanding military leaders of his time not only in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, but in Europe, too. Twelve books from the 16th and 17th centuries with the manuscript inscription Ex Libris Joannis Caroli Chodkiewicz were found in the Vilnius University Library. These are chronicles, military and historical books, and works by Antique writers. The books were received by Vilnius University as part of the library of the well-known Sapieha family. The daughter of Joannes Carolus Chodkiewicz, Anna, was married to Joannes Carolus Sapieha (1585-1635). After their death, the books ended up with Casimirus Leo Sapieha (1609-1656), Anna's brother-in-law. In 1655, according to the testament of Casimirus Leo Sapieha, his whole library (known as "Bibliotheca Sapiehana") was bequeathed to Vilnius University. Since there were no prior investigations of the private library of Joannes Carolus Chodkiewicz, these 12 books are a valuable source for the research on the history of private libraries in Lithuania.
