LTPatterned woven sashes from the Baltic countries (Latvia, Lithuania) are known from the 11th century AD. The geometric designs they contain are ancient in origin and contain many similarities to the signs and symbols found on figurines, ceramic vessels and other artifacts from Neolithic Europe. This study presents an original typology of visual archetypes based on analogies between Baltic sash ornaments, their names and mythological significance in Baltic folk tradition and specific signs from the Old European script.
