Summary / Abstract:

ENThis article shows that St. George was fated to be portrayed on the seal of Varniai town because of the strained political ideological situation in the period of fights between Catholic Church and Protestantism. Because of this situation the portrayal of St. George the Saint Guardian of Samogitia bishop Jurgis Tiškevičius left in the seal of the town until 1777, when the bishop J. D. Lapinskis ordered to use his own seal. [p. 266].
