ENCommunication issues within the military were broadly regulated by the Polish-Lithuanian military articles of the 17th century. During campaigns, when the army gathered in camp, a permanent postal service was established to maintain communication between the troops and major centers of power. The responsibility for relaying information within the Crown army primarily fell to the soldiers themselves, although the services of the royal ‘civilian’ postal system were also utilized. This system was characterized by relatively low costs but also by a weak level of information security, leading to some information being transmitted exclusively orally. The entire communication infrastructure of the Crown army thus involved the temporary assignment of certain soldiers to specific locations to transport messages. In return, these soldiers received additional financial compensation. This setup provided a basic but functional communication network essential for military operations in the era.
