Archaeological underwater survey of the Plateliai Lake
Summary / Abstract:

LT2004 m. buvo tęsiami povandeniniai archeologijos žvalgymai Platelių ežere (Plungės r.) [p. 319].

ENIn 2004 the archaeological underwater survey of the Plateliai Lake (in Plungė district) was continued. The bottom of the lake was surveyed with sonar in an area of about 2 km2. At the Shoal of Nalija between the Castle Island and the Moose’s Island the underwater survey was performed in an area of 2000 m2. During the survey with umbrella sonar the object No. 1 was discovered near the northern lake bank. It was a yacht (centerboarder) with a lifted sail. The object No. 2 was found about 300 m from the Castle Island. A submerged video camera showed a branchy tree and several logs lying on the bottom. The object No. 3 was found about 150 m from the Calves’ Island, traverse to the yacht-club in the depth of about 10 m. On the bottom a ridge was identified. It was overgrown with shells and a log pointing out of the mud was visible at one of ends. The object No. 4 appeared to be a large sunken stump. In 2004 the survey of shoals near the Moose’s Island of the Plateliai Lake was continued. On one of the shoals (on the Shoal of Nalija) where the depth is only about 1.5-3 m there is a large stone, and fishers and divers say that “marks” of an indefinite origin are visible on that. During the survey in the vicinity of the stone no trace of human activities was found.
