ENIn 2004 several archaeological surveys in the territory of the old town of Vilnius were performed. At the Savičiaus Str. 13 earthworks were perform ed rebuilding the former wall of the Augustinian Closter at the Savičiaus Str. The archaeological survey was performed at the site of the former wall. An area of 23 m2 was investigated, and a fragment of the cultural layer down to 1.1 m was investigated. Remains of the foundation the 17th century building preceding the church and relevant stone pavement fragments were discovered. The interior premises of the building had stone pavements. Width of the foundation implies that the building was low. It was destroyed in the 17th century, later its facade foundation or its fragments were used as a wall. The mixed earth layers contained finds of the standard 17th century pottery. In relation to the heating pipeline reconstruction in the inner yard of the building at the Vilniaus Str. 22, an area of 180 m2 was investigated and a 1.2 thick cultural layer fragment was surveyed. Most of the earthworks were performed at the locations of the old heating pipeline where no valuable cultural layers were found. In the locations of new trenches prior to the earthworks four test pits with the total area of 9.64 m2 were excavated down to the planned depth. An archaeologically valuable cultural layer fragment and relevant ground-level of the 17th century yard were found in the south-western part of the yard in the test pit No. 2 at the depth of 0.74-0.8 m. This layer contained brickbats, animal bones, tiny fragments of the 17th century pottery and broken glass. The sterile soil was reached in the south-eastern corner of the yard in the test pit No. 4 at the depth of 0.9 m.In Užupis Suburb the earthworks relevant to gas pipe laying and connection to the dwelling houses at the Žvirgždyno La. 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, 10, 12, 14, 15 were perform ed. Locations of these earthworks were surveyed archaeologically. An area of 48 m2 was investigated, and a 0.3 m thick cultural layer was discovered. The archaeological survey revealed no earlier pavements at the Žvirgždyno Lane, neither any archaeologically valuable cultural layer. In the old town of Vilnius at the Bazilijonų Str. 3 the transit heating pipeline was evicted from the site. Locations of the relevant earthworks were surveyed archaeologically. An area of 197 m2 and a 1.5 m thick fragment of the cultural layer were investigated. Seven fragments of the former brick constructions dating to the late 19th - first quarter of the 20th century were discovered. No archaeologically valuable cultural layer was found in the vicinity of these structures. In the trench excavated in the driving part of the Bazilijonų Str. a 1.2-1.5 m thick fragment of the cultural layer was established. Layers of rubbles and earth containing fragments of the standard 17th century pottery were found. In the Visų Šventųjų and Rūdininkų Str. earthworks relevant to the gas pipeline reconstruction were performed. Locations of these earthworks were surveyed archaeologically. An area of 91 m2 and a 1.5 m thick fragment of the cultural layer were investigated. At the eastern side of the Visų Šventųjų street an unknown fragment of the defensive town wall was found. It shows that the wall was located closer to the present Bazilijonų Str. than in was considered previously.
