Tyrinėjimai Gedimino pr. 4 (2003 m.)

LT2003 m. LII MTS ekspedicija atliko žvalgomuosius, o vėliau ir išsamius archeologinius tyrinėjimus Gedimino pr. namo 4 patalpose. Žvalgomųjų tyrinėjimų metu 170 m2 dydžio patalpoje ištirti 3 bendro 11 m2 ploto šurfai. Vėliau papildomai ištirtos 3 perkasos (154 m2). Iš viso ištirtas 165 m2 plotas [p. 237].

ENIn 2003 the LII MTS expedition performed a survey and later a full-scale archaeological investigation inside the house at the Gedimino Av. 4. During the survey 3 test pits (11 m2 in total) were investigated in the premise of 170 m2. Later 3 more trenches covering the total area of 154 n r were excavated. The total area investigated covered 165 m2. A 1.1-1.6 m thick cultural layer datable to the mid 17th and the mid 19th-20th century were established. Three horizons of the cultural layer were investigated. 395 finds were collected. Most of them were shards of pottery and constructional ceramics datable to the first half of the 17th century, out of them fragments of stovetiles should be discussed exceptionally. Some of them were decorated with the coats of arms of Lithuanian and Polish nobles, one of them belonged to the Gusiewski family. Fragments ofthe armorial stove-tiles and stratigraphic data imply that before the war of 1655 during which Vilnius was occupied and burned by the troops of Muscovite Czar Alexiej Michailovich, the present site No. 4 hosted the Gąsiewski family palace. After the war and the plague the site was deserted. Its repopulation began only in the 19th century when construction of brick houses and the entire St. Georg Avenue (presently the Gedimino Av.) began.
