ENIn autumn 2004 the LII MTS performed an extensive archaeological research at the Vilniaus Str. 31 (Vilnius city). In the yard and southern block an up to 1.80 m thick cultural layer datable to the 16th-20th century was established. There were loose finds of the 15th century were found, nevertheless the layer of that century failed to form. Fragments of 15 ovens dating to the 16th-17th century were discovered. Inside the southern block 3 levels of the former street pavements were found. The first level dated to the 17th-18th century; the second one to the 17th century and the third one to the 16th-17th century. The investigations revealed that in the 16th-18th century the street stretched 4-5 m northwards from the present Islandijos Street. In the southern block several fragments of the 16th-17th century buildings were discovered. People who lived in the buildings next to the street were involved in stovetile production and iron processing. At the premises adjacent to the present Islandijos Street in the sterile soil a ditch of an unidentified purpose was found. Stratigraphicly it could be dated to the 16th-17th century. During the investigations a unique artefact was found: a medallion-shaped armorial stove-tile matrix. The matrix has the coat of arms of Mikalojus Kristupas Radvila the Orphian. Another stove-tile production matrix was found as well.
