LT2004 m. Asmalų kaimavietėje platinant Utenos-Kuktiškių kelią buvo nustumdomas pakelės žemės paviršius. Jis nustumdytas abipus kelio apie 5-6,5 m pločiu ir 30-40 cm gyliu, per visą, maždaug 550 m, kaimavietės ilgį. Žvalgant kaimavietę, Š-ŠR jos dalyje, apie 60 m ilgio nustumdytame plote, aukštesnių laukų šlaite link upelio (įrengtos kelio pralaidos), aptikta židinių liekanų [p. 143].
ENIn 2004 during the Utena-Kuktiškis road reconstructions in the Asmalai village site (Utena district) dated to the late 16th-17th century and at the site of the former barrow cemetery an about 5-6.5 m wide and 0.3-0.4 m thick earth layer was pushed sideways throughout the whole length of the village which makes 550 m. During the survey remains of hearths, shards of hand-made rusticated pottery and wheel-made pottery decorated with wavy or horizontal line ornaments, the GDL coin and a milling stone were found. The survey revealed that the south-eastern bank of the Viešis Lake was inhabited since the mid 1st millennium A. D.
