LT2006 m. buvo atliekami žvalgomieji tyrinėjimai Trakų senojo miesto vietoje (A 1783), Birutės g. ir Birutės skresgatvyje, rekonstruojamų elektros tinklų trasų vietose [p. 353].
ENIn 2006, 14 test pits with a total area of 20 m² were excavated at Birutės St. and the cross-sections of the walls of the electric network trench were recorded. The total length of the excavated trench is 1257 m. During the evaluation stone paving fragments from 2 or perhaps 3 periods were found in the territory of the former market square. The bottom paving, which is located at a depth of 0.40–0.45 m from the current surface of the street, is the paving of the market square that existed up until the mid-17th century. The household pottery, imbrex and flat roof tile, and ‘pot-shaped’ stove tile (Topfkachel) sherds allows the cultural layer, found in test pits 2, 3, and 4 beside the houses at Birutės St. 6 and 8, to be dated to the 15th – 1st half of the 16th century, the same age perhaps as the remains of the old brick wall found in test pit 3. A dense cultural layer with 16th–17th century and later pottery was found at the connection sites for the residential homes at Birutės St. 9, 10, 11, and 12. A cultural layer with small red brick fragments and 16th–19th century pottery was found closer to the boundary of the lot at Birutės St. 17 at the intersection of Maironio and Birutės Sts. The territory of Birutės Sq. was used for the gardens of the townspeople until the mid-19th century. No cultural layer has been found in this territory both during the 2006 evaluation and during earlier investigations.
