Žvalgymai T. Daugirdo gatvėje

LTT. Daugirdo g. yra Kauno senamiesčio PV dalyje, tarp senamiesčio 7–8 ir 6–9 kvartalų ir jungia Rotušės a. su Nemuno krantine. Tai viena seniausių Kauno gatvių, jungusių Rotušės a. buvusią turgavietę su uostu, buvusiu Nemuno dešiniajame krante. Seniausios žinios apie prie dabartinės T. Daugirdo g. buvusius pastatus siekia XVI a. Čia yra buvęs Kauno miesto kalėjimas ir pati gatvė vadinta Kalėjimo (Ciemniczna) g. Remontuojamos kanalizacijos trasos buvo nutiestos dar XX a. ketvirtame dešimtmetyje statant Jėzuitų gimnaziją. Jokie tyrinėjimai pačioje T. Daugirdo g. nebuvo atliekami [p. 291].

ENIn repairing the storm drain and domestic sewerage line on T. Daugirdo St., a ditch 140 m long, up to 4 m wide, and up to 3 m deep was excavated. The greater part of the street’s cultural layers had been previously destroyed in laying the utility channels. A series of cultural layers 0.8–1.3 m deep was found in those places where it had not been destroyed. The street’s layers lie directly on the geological ground surface. Household pottery, ‘pot-shaped’ stove tiles (Topfkachel), and other finds dating to the 15th – 1st half of the 16th century were discovered in the street’s lower layers. Field survey was completely justified and essential at those places where the utility channels are being repaired when repairing channels, which were laid without the benefit of an archaeological investigation.
