Dujotiekio tinklai Kauno senamiestyje buvo nutiesti XX a. 7–8 dešimtmetyje, kai archeologiniai tyrinėjimai statybos metu dar nebuvo atliekami [p. 289].
ENIn 2006 the gas main pipes were reconstructed in the E part of Kaunas Old Town. This was a continuation of work performed in 2002. During the reconstruction the old pipes were excavated using test pits at turns, branches, and home connections. 162 test pits of various sizes were excavated and a field survey conducted in an area of 591.4 m2. 218.4 m of undisturbed cultural layer cross-sections were recorded. The layers have survived only fragmentally in one slope of the ditch or in part of it. Only sterile soil was found in many test pits. Of the 162 test pits excavated, cultural layer cross-sections were recorded in 84 (almost 50 %). The cultural layers in the test pits excavated in streets were characteristic to streets. Present-day Nemuno St. formed at the site of an old road to Vilnius. Layers that were from 0.7–1 m to 1.5–1.9 m thick and characteristic to gardens and farmland were found in the majority of the test pits deeper in the quarter. The earliest development in this part of the Old Town is known from the late 18th – early 19th century. Only a few 16th–17th century archaeological finds: household pottery sherds characteristic to Kaunas Old Town, were collected in conducting the evaluation.
