Joniškio senamiestis

LT2006 m. Joniškyje buvo atlikti didesnės ar mažesnės apimties archeologiniai žvalgomieji tyrinėjimai įvairiose miesto vietose: Žemaičių g. 2 (ištirtas 1 m2 plotas), Upytės g. 11A (ištirtas 12 m2 plotas), Žemaičių g. 2–4 (ištirtas 1,65 m2 plotas), Žagarės g. 10A–12 – Darbininkų g. (ištirtas 5 m2 plotas, žvalgyta 67,5 m2), Miesto a. 4A (ištirtas 32 m2 plotas, žvalgytas 80 m2 plotas), Miesto a. 5 (ištirtas 4 m2 plotas), Šiaulių senoji g. 4A (ištirtas 6,7 m2 plotas), Upytės g. 5A – (ištirtas 19,35 m2). Jų metu buvo iškasta 10 šurfų, 3 trasos, ištirtas bendras 80,7 m2 plotas, o su žvalgytu (147,5 m2) – 228,2 m2 [p. 282].

ENIn 2006 field evaluations of greater or smaller size were conducted in Joniškis at various locations in the city. A disturbed cultural layer with 17th–20th century finds was found at Upytės St. 11A, 19th–20th century cultural layers at Žemaičių St. 2, Miesto Sq. 5, Upytės St. 5A, a 17th century cultural layer at Žemaičių St. 2–4, Miesto Sq. 4A, a 17th–19th century cultural layer at Šiaulių Senoji St. 4A, and a late 19th–20th century cultural layer at Žagarės St. 10A–12 – Darbininkų St. The remains of a granary destroyed by fire in the 2nd half of the 19th century were found at Upytės St. 11A. The 17th–18th century foundations of the old Joniškis town hall (about 96 cm thick, Magdeburg law since 1616) and an (8 year old) cow buried under a thin cultural layer with few finds were discovered at Miesto Sq. 4A. At all the locations where a 17th–18th cultural layer was discovered, finds characteristic to that period were collected: traditional local (reduction) and oxidation glazed and unglazed ceramics, pottery, and stove tile sherds, iron artefacts (handmade nails, a shoe heel plate, part of a window hinge, a 1661 shilling of John II Casimir of Poland, half of a horn handle from a tanged awl, a white kaolin pipe stem, animal bones, etc.
