Summary / Abstract:

LTVainežerio senovės gynybinis įtvirtinimas (Lazdijų r.), vietinių gyventojų vadinamas „Okopka“, įrengtas Ančios ežero pusiasalyje, 300 m į Š nuo Vainežerio ežero. Tai 5–6 m aukščio pylimas, žiedu juosiantis trapecijos formos aikštelė, kurios Š pakraštys yra 60 m ilgio, P – 50 m ilgio. Aikštelė – 40 pločio. Pylimo viršus plokščias, 2–4 m pločio, prie pagrindo siekia 15–20 m pločio. Įtvirtinimų PR kampe yra įvažiavimas į aikštelę. Gynybiniai įtvirtinimai užima 130 m ilgio ir iki 100 m pločio teritoriją [p. 193].

ENIn 2006 the old Vainežeris defensive fortification (Lazdijai Dist.), which is on a peninsula in Lake Ančia, was investigated. It consists of a 5–6 m high rampart and trapezoid-shaped square, 60 x 40 m in size, surrounded by a ring defence. An area 18 x 4 m in size (75 m2 in all) was excavated in Soviet times in a 4–5 m wide and 20 m long strip cleared with a bulldozer. The rampart was created on a single occasion from brown clay with pebble admixtures. Its inner part was covered with broken stone with an average size of 30 x 20 x 6 cm. A 20–40 cm thick cultural layer with hand built pottery dating to the 1st millennium (?) was found under the rampart. A pit filled with sand with signs of charred wood particles was discovered in the subsoil and flint artefacts (a blade with a diagonally retouched end, blades with only retouched ends, a blade that had not been retouched, and a flake) dating to the Mesolithic period were found. The ramparts of the old defensive fortification were created in the 16th (?) – 18th century.
