ENAn area of 113.25 m2 was excavated and an area of 139.8 m2 was surveyed in and around 17 Aguonų St. Excavations within the land plot revealed a late-17th-century layer, with finds typical of that period starting at a depth of 2.4-2.8 metres. Underneath, a layer of aeolian sand formed during the 11th-17th centuries was found. The underlying dark grey sandy loam deposit contained features cut into the sterile soil which were dated to the 11th-13th centuries. The features were identified as postholes that formed the outline of a building. The sterile soil level was reached at a depth of 3-3.94 m. Meanwhile, in the excavations on Aguonų Street, a layer dating to the end of the 17th century was found starting at a depth of 2-2.4 m, with finds characteristic of that period. This layer contained particularly well-preserved organics, such as wood and leather artefacts.
