ENIn 2022, archaeological excavations were carried out during the reconstruction of electricity cables, situated between Algirdo and Augustijonų Streets in Vilnius. The exploratory excavation comprised six test pits with a total area of 17.9 m2. In addition, 21 utility trenches with a total area of 1,202.8 m2 and 7 trench extensions with a total area of 34.5 m2 were surveyed. In total, the area investigated was 1,255.2 m2. In test pit 1 on Rūdninkų Street, an archaeological layer with finds from the 17th and 18th centuries and the remnants of a late 18th-century foundation was found at a depth of 50 cm. In test pit 3 on Kruopų St., an 18th-century layer with finds was recorded at a depth of 1 m and deeper, along with a stone pavement dating to the second half of the 18th century and the remnants of a foundation dating to the first half of the 19th century. Along the rest of the path, only redeposited fills originating in the 20th and 21st centuries were observed, with isolated finds ranging from the 16th to the 20th centuries. A total of 39 masonry structures were uncovered on Algirdo, Didžioji, Kruopų, Raugyklos, and Rūdninkų Streets, dating to the 17th-20th centuries. The remnant of the foundation M34 uncovered on Rūdninkų St. which dates to the second half of the 17th century is worthy of a separate mention, since it may be linked to the Rūdninkai Gate. Sterile soil was reached in Trench 21 on Algirdo St. at a depth of 40 cm and in Trench 16 on Kauno St at a depth of 40 cm. The excavations yielded 385 artefacts dating from the 16th to the 20th centuries, the majority of which consisted of household pottery and structural ceramics.
