ENThe exploratory excavation at 37 Vilniaus St. covered a total area of 35.2 m2 and included six test pits measuring around 2 x 2 m. No archaeological layer was found in test pit 1, located in the street-side wing of the buildings cellar, but a hoard of 19th-century gold coins was found. Test pit 2, located in the same basement, did not reveal any archaeological layers either, but it did contain Feature 1, which was partially excavated and dated to the first half of the 17th century based on associated finds. Test pits 4 and 6, excavated on the ground floor of the building, contained structures dating to the 19th and 20th centuries: parts of the wall foundation and stove base, along with floors which limited further investigation. In test pit 3, the arched foundation of the existing buildings courtyard wing was unearthed, and the fill which was probably deposited in the valley of the Vingris stream in the 19th century was investigated. A drill was used to penetrate 3.3 m below the ground floor level, but it failed to reach sterile soil. Test pit 5 unveiled the strip foundations of the S wall of the courtyard wing, which reached a depth of 1.85 m. Meanwhile, the foundations of the W wall were found to be of an arched construction. An archaeological layer dating to the 15th(?)-17th centuries was encountered in test pit 5 at depth of 1.3 m, and sandy sterile soil was reached at a depth of 2.4 m.
