Žvalgomieji tyrinėjimai Žagarėje

LT2007 m. Žagarėje (Joniškio r.) ŠA vykdė nedidelės apimties archeologinius žvalgomuosius tyrinėjimus ir žvalgymus. Jų metu ištirta: P. Cvirkos g. 42 – Gedimino gatvėje – bendras 9,3 m2 plotas, P. Cvirkos g. 44–64 – 6,16 m2 , Vilniaus g. 10A – 9 m2 , Parko g. 9 – 10,6 m2 plotas, žvalgytas 90 m2 plotas, Kalno g. 13, 14, 25, Pašvėčio g. 10, 30, Raktuvės g. 29 – 66 m2 , Kęstučio g. 1 – iesto aikštės 1A – 18 m2 , žvalgytas 810 m2 plotas, Kęstučio g. 23 – 4,32 m2 . Iš viso 2007 m. Žagarėje buvo iškasti 27 šurfai (1x1, 1x2, 1x3, 2x2, 3x3 m dydžio), 7 plotai (1x5, 2x5 m dydžio), stebėtos 9 kasamos trasos. Iš viso ištirtas 123,38 m2 plotas, žvalgytas 900 m2 plotas. Kartu su žvalgytu tyrinėtas bendras 1023,38 m2 plotas. XVII–XVIII a. kultūriniai sluoksniai aptikti P. Cvirkos g. 42, 44 – Gedimino gatvėje, Raktuvės g. 29, XVIII–XIX a. – P. Cvirkos g. 58, Vilniaus g. 10A, iesto aikštėje 1A, Kęstučio g. 23, kultūrinių sluoksnių ir radinių nerasta – Parko g. 9, Kalno g. 13, 14, 25, Pašvėčio g. 10, 30, Kęstučio g. 1, P. Cvirkos g. 64. 2007 m. tyrinėjimai papildė duomenis apie Žagarės užstatymo raidą, miestelėnų buitį, prekybinius ryšius, amatus. pač stokota duomenų apie Senąją Žagarę, kur aptikti XVII–XVIII a. kultūriniai sluoksniai, pasiekiami net 45–60 cm gylyje. Tyrinėjimų metu P. Cvirkos g. 42 – Gedimino gatvėje buvo aptikti gerai išlikę XVII– XVIII a. datuojami kultūriniai sluoksniai. Tyrinėti plotai yra prie istorinės Senosios Žagarės turgaus aikštės V pakraščio, kelyje link Kruopių, Akmenės, Vegerių. Įžemis (smėlis, priesmėlis) pasiektas 90–130 cm gylyje. [...] [p. 450-451].

ENIn 2007 a small-scale excavation (a total area of 123.08 m2 ) and survey (900 m2 ) was conducted in Žagarė. The total evaluated area was 1023.08 m2 . 17th–18th-century cultural layers were discovered at P. Cvirkos St. 42, 44 – Gedimino street and Raktuvės St. 29, 18th–19th-century cultural layers at P. Cvirkos St. 58, Vilniaus St. 10A, iesto Sq. 1A, and Kęstučio St. 23, and no valuable cultural layers were found at Parko St. 9, Kalno St. 13, 14, Pašvėčio St. 10, 30, Kęstučio St. 1, and P. Cvirkos St. 64. uring the excavation 17th–19th-century urban finds were collected: sherds of traditional (rustic), oxidation glazed and unglazed thrown pottery, shallow (at P. Cvirko St. 44, 6 whole tiles were found). and deep ‘pot-shaped’ (Topfkachel) stove tiles, flat armorial stove tiles, trim stove tiles, brick rubble, an iron hook – part of a door lock, 2 whetstones, a belt buckle, a porcelain pipe bowl, and 5 17th–19th-century coins. The excavations at the Old Žagarė market square (P. Cvirkos St. 42 – Gedimino street) supplemented the information about Žagarė’s businesses: the 2 awls, thimble, and needle that were found attest to the tailor’s trade. Tailors (in 1754, 1756, 1775, 1776, and 1784) and cobblers (in 1647) are mentioned in the 17th–18th-century inventories of Old Žagarė. A layer of slag (dross (?)) was discovered where fragments of 3 bellows were found. They could be from an iron smelting furnace or a blacksmith’s forge. Blacksmiths and metalworkers are mentioned in Žagarė (in 1565, in Old Žagarė in 1647 and 1784, and in ew Žagarė in 1778, 1786, 1789, and 1791). Thus the new finds supplement the sparse historical information about the trades in Žagarė.The remains of paving from the first half of the 20th century were found around a Jewish prayer house at Vilniaus St. 10A. An excavation was made of part of the remains of a wooden building, which was erected in the first half of the 19th century and where animal horns and bones with signs of processing and half of a faience plate were collected. Paving and a building foundation were discovered at iesto Sq. 1A. This plot was the site of the ew Žagarė church government and its buildings: a rectory (built in 1807), an alms house, a brewery, a granary, and 2 altars, which are mentioned in 1792, 1807, and 1808 church documents.
