[...] [p. 439].
ENIn 2007 surveys were conducted at various locations in the old town and in the suburbs. A 48 m² area was surveyed in the building being renovated at Baltasis Sq. 3A and its approaches. Trenches up to 0.5 m deep and up to 1 m wide were excavated in the house’s basement. 2 areas (6x2 m and 4x2 m) were excavated near the house’s S and walls. Sterile soil was not reached and no archaeologically valuable finds, undisturbed cultural layer, or building remains were discovered. A 4 m2 test pit was excavated at Paupio St. 21 and a 1.45–1.5 m thick cultural layer was discovered. 43 16th–20th-century finds were collected. Foundation fragments of a former 19th-century outbuilding were recorded at a depth of 0.2 m in the test pit. 2 trenches (a total of 28 m²) were excavated at alūnų St. 3. Trench 1 (20 x 0.95 m and 1.5 m deep) was excavated in the courtyard. A 1.1–1.2 m thick cultural layer, which contained 16th–18th-century household ceramic sherds, stove tile sherds, and glass shards, was recorded in it. The layer dates to the late 18th – early 19th century. Trench 2 (12.4 x 0.7 m and 1.2–1.75 m deep) was excavated on the street side. A late 18th – early 19th-century cultural layer, which contained several 17th–18th-century finds, was recorded in it.A survey was conducted in an area of 690 m2 at A. Strazdelio St. 1 and on Šv. vasios street. o cultural layer was discovered in the 2x1.3 and 2x1.4 m test pits excavated in the interior courtyard at A. Strazdelio St. 1 or the layer was fill earth or had been disturbed. A wall from the late 19th – early 20th century was recorded in the trench excavated in the courtyard. Trenches up to 2 m deep and 2.2 m wide (in all about 130 m2 ) were excavated and a pit about 2.2 m wide was dug on Šv. vasios street. A cultural layer up to 1.4 m thick was recorded in those places that had not been disturbed. 125 late 16th–20th-century finds were collected. 23 trenches (a total area of 161 m²) were excavated at the sites of public transport stops. Cultural layers dating to the 20th century were recorded. The remains of brick structures from the late 19th – first half of the 20th century were recorded in the vicinity of stops 30, 61, and 73.
