Tyrimai Kražiuose

LT2022 m. Kražių miestelyje (Kelmės r.) vykdyti elektros kabelio klojimo darbai. Kadangi dalis trasos patenka į saugomą Kražių miestelio istorinės dalies (UK 17089) ir senojo miesto vietos (UK 13012) teritoriją, grunto kasimo darbų metu buvo atlikti archeologiniai tyrimai. Pagal pirminį projektą saugomoje teritorijoje buvo suplanuota nutiesti maždaug 2,685 km ilgio trasų, bet dirbant jis koreguotas. Detaliųjų tyrimų metu ištirtos 48 perkasos (1-47, 10A) ir 82 šurfai, bendras jų plotas 985,75 m2. Žvagytos 3 tranšėjos ir 11 iškasų, bendro 48,09 m2 ploto [p. 317].

ENThe excavation in Kražiai (Kelmė District) (48 trenches (1-47, 10A) and 82 test pits totalling 985.75 m2 and the survey of 3 utility trenches and 11 pits totalling 48.09 m2) yielded a cultural layer up to 2.4 m thick with sunken structures in the sterile soil that date to the 1st millennium - 20th century; paving from 4 periods (1930s, late 18th-19th century, 18th century, and 16th century) 3 burials, and the remains of masonry and wooden buildings from various periods. It determined that the cultural layer on Pievų Street continues beyond the boundaries of the protected area (the lots at Pievų St. 11, 13, and 15). The remains of a 1st-millennium settlement’s cultural layer that contains hand-built pottery were also discovered on Pievų Street. The town’s earliest cultural layers dated to the 14th(?) - 15th centuries based on the discovered sherds of household pottery and stove tiles with a quatrefoil mouth. The excavation was conducted down to sterile soil except at those places where structures (walls, paving) were exposed.
