ENThe 2022 investigation (22 2 x 2 m test pits totalling 88 m2, 67 trenches totalling 483 m2, and 783 m2 surveyed) on Nemuno Street in Kaunas determined that stone paving from the first half of the 20th century has survived under this streets asphalt. Under the streets SE part, it revealed only 2-4 m thick, 19th-20th-century fill layers and elsewhere there, under the aforementioned stone paving, to a depth of roughly 40 cm, soil that had a mixed structure and contained isolated 17th-20th-century finds. Below these lay a roughly 5-35 cm thick, fine whitish sand horizon without finds, which had presumably been created during mid-20th-century levelling work, followed first, at a depth of roughly 50-80 cm, a 10-30 cm thick, archaeologically valuable 17th-century dark grey soil horizon with large numbers of animal bones and isolated sherds of 16th-17th-century household pottery, then a roughly 5 cm thick horizon of yellowish ferrous sand without any finds, and finally sterile soil, reddish clay loam, in which pits with 16th-17th-century finds were encountered in places. The investigation catalogued around 1000 finds.
