Kretingos bernardinų vienuolyno sodas
LTKretingos centrinėje dalyje, Vilniaus g. 2 sklype, apie 8096 m2 dydžio rekonstruojamo stadiono plote atlikti žvalgomieji tyrimai ir žvalgymai. Šis sklypas yra Kretingos bernardinų vienuolyno ir Viešpaties Apreiškimo Švč. Mergelei Marijai bažnyčios statinių komplekse. Istoriniuose šaltiniuose nurodoma, kad šioje vietoje yra buvęs vienuolyno sodas. Už jo, labiau į P, yra J. K. Chodkevičiaus įkurto Kretingos miesto branduolys. Anksčiau šioje vietoje archeologiniai tyrimai nebuvo vykdyti. 20202021 m. Vilniaus gatvės rekonstrukcijos metu šurfus ir detaliuosius tyrimus į V nuo tirtos vietos atliko S. Sprindys [p. 226-227].
ENA field evaluation (50 test pits totalling 81 m2) and survey (roughly 7800 m2) were conducted in the roughly 8096 m2 area of the stadium to be reconstructed at Vilniaus St. 2 in the central part of Kretinga. Historical plans show the monastery orchard at this location within the Kretinga Bernardine monastery and the Church of the Annunciation building complex. The test pits yielded isolated 17th-20th-century finds and the remnants of a masonry foundation, the successive survey 19(?)-20th-century finds. The archaeological data failed to identify this building and no historical sources mention it. An architectural evaluation established that it could have been built in the 17th century, i. e., during the monastery’s founding, and destroyed around the first half of the 18th century when the city and monastery endured many losses and considerable destruction.
