Kernavės piliakalnių tyrimai

LT2022 m. buvo tęsiami Kernavės piliakalnių tyrimai mokslinio pažinimo tikslais. Tyrimai vykdyti įgyvendinant Lietuvos mokslo tarybos finansuojamą mokslininkų grupių projektą „Piliakalnių funkcinė raida - nuo įtvirtintos gyvenvietės iki kunigaikščio rezidencijos“. Archeologinių tyrimų tikslas - nustatyti ir tiksliai chronologizuoti piliakalnių funkcinės paskirties raidą, aptikti įvairius laikotarpius reprezentuojančių objektų ir struktūrų, surinkti mėginių laboratoriniams tyrimams [p. 91].

ENIn 2022, scientific excavations were conducted at Kernavė hillforts within the framework of the “Functional development of the hillforts - from fortified settlement to the duke’s residence” project funded by the Research Council of Lithuania. The 2022 work comprised one trench on the Altar Mound and 128 boreholes spread across Mindaugas Throne Mound, Castle Mound, Kriveikiškis Hillfort, and the foot of the Altar Mound. The trench on the Altar Mound measured 10 x 4 m, and revealed a rampart on the edge ofthe mound and a burnt building dating to the 12th-14th centuries. An abundance of finds was recovered, namely clay plaster, pottery, animal bones, metal and other finds. Boreholes in the other mounds provided data on their stratigraphy, fortifications and original terrain. Samples were collected for AMS dating.
