ENIn 2008 an evaluation and excavation were conducted at the construction site of a new building at Mindaugo St. 8, Vilnius. Three 2–2.2 x 2.9–3 m test pits (a total area of 18.48 m²) were excavated during the evaluation. A cultural layer with 7–10 horizons was recorded. Sterile soil was reached at a depth of 2.65–4 m. The cultural layer dates to the early 17th – mid-20th century. Four stages in the development of the plot and its immediate vicinity were established. Two trenches (264 m2) were excavated during the excavation at the places where utility lines are to be laid and the foundation is to be reinforced (164.27 m2). A 0.98– 5.04 m thick cultural layer dating to the late 17th / early 18th – second half of the 20th century was recorded. Seven stages in the development of the plot were distinguished. The location had not been developed during the late 17th / early 18th – mid-18th century. The first development occurred in the middle – late 18th century. Sparse development predominated and the territory began to be divided into plots, stone paving laid, and wooden fences erected. The remains of the foundations of three outbuildings were found. Mindaugo Street was created in the early 19th century by remodelling or reconstructing the earlier structures and tearing up the paving. The structures that finally came to exist disappeared in the first half of the 19th century.A total of 12 219 finds were discovered. The fewest were found in the horizons from the late 17th / early 18th – late 18th century and the most in the horizons from the second half of the 19th – early 20th century. Sherds of household pottery were mostly found as well as many imported faience and porcelain artefacts. Fragments of stove tiles, pipes, clay whistles, and figurines as well as rings, buckles, locks, cutlery, buttons, coins, flint strikers, several cloth fragments, bone blanks, and bone artefacts were also discovered.
