Summary / Abstract:

ENDuring an evaluation at Šv. Stepono St. 27 a cultural layer of up to 1.7 m was located. A 30–40 cm thick 17th-century horizon was distinguished. A fragment of a wall dating to the second half of the 17th century was discovered. A cultural layer over 2.3 m thick was encountered during the survey and evaluation at Šventaragio St. 2. Its upper horizons had been destroyed to a depth of up to 70–90 cm. Two undisturbed cultural layer horizons from the 18th and 17th centuries were distinguished. Fragments of 17th- and 19th-century paving, fragments of the masonry foundations from former 19th-century buildings, and the remains of a 17th-century wooden building were discovered. A disturbed 2.6–3.1 m thick cultural layer was found during the excavation at Universiteto St. 14 / L. Stuokos-Gucevičiaus St. 2. A 0.5–1.1 m thick cultural layer horizon from the late 16th – early 17th century was recorded at a depth of 1.9–2.3 m. Fragments of an early 20th-century building and the 16th-century Vilnius city defensive wall were found. Two levels of wooden constructions were distinguished: an upper one dating to the mid-17th – early 18th century and a lower one (a well and pipe fragments) dating to the late 16th century.During the evaluation at Subačiaus St. 26 it was established that the cultural layer in the N part of the plot is up to 3.7 m thick. Two terraces of the current slope were formed in the 1960s. The lower layers were probably formed during the late 17th–18th centuries. The cultural layer in the vicinity of the fragments of the late 17th-century foundation found in the NW of the plot is up to 3.3 m thick. The upper horizons of the layer were formed in the 20th century, the lower in the 18th century. The cultural layer in the W and S of the plot were destroyed or dug up in the 1960s. It was established during the evaluation at Subačiaus St. 28 that the cultural layer in the N part of the plot is up to 1.7 m thick, in the E part up to 3 m thick. The upper (18th–19th-century) layers are fill. The cultural layer in the inner courtyard of the Missionary Monastery was destroyed in the 20th century. A fragment of a 40–60 cm thick 18th-century cultural layer was recorded there. The layers in the W of the plot were also churned up in the 20th century. Fragments of undisturbed 17th and 18th-century horizons were recorded only at the pits sites. Fragments of late 18th- and 19th-century masonry walls were discovered.
