LTPalangos miesto istorinėje dalyje, sklype Vytauto g. 27 / 29 buvo numatoma statyti svečių namus, todėl prieš statybos darbus 2008 m. birželio mėnesį buvo atlikti žvalgomieji archeologiniai tyrimai. Jų metu sklypo R dalyje, palei Vytauto gatvę 1,4 m gylyje aptiktas kultūrinis sluoksnis, preliminariai datuotas XVI–XVII a. Šioje vietoje 2008 m. liepos mėnesį projektuojamų statinių vietose buvo atlikti archeologiniai tyrimai. Ištirtos 4 tarpusavyje susijungiančios perkasos, kurių bendras plotas buvo 290 m2. Ištirtas plotas pailgas R–V kryptimi, jo plotis buvo 10 m, maksimalus ilgis siekė 30 m [p. 364].
EN290 m2 was excavated in Vytauto Street in the historic part of Palanga. A surviving cultural layer, dated to the mid-16th century on the basis of coins, was found at a depth of 1.4 m. The excavated area encompasses a homestead yard, which was enclosed by a fence. A well was found to the W of the homestead. A wooden building with glass windows that was heated by a stove with ‘pot-shaped’ stove tiles (Topfkacheln) stood at the homestead. The cultural layer contained more than 3000 finds, the majority of which consisted of household pottery, stove tile fragments, and animal bones. Many metal artefacts were found including ornaments, decorative clothing accessories, and decorative parts of household items. Judging from the discovered finds, the homestead belonged to a wealthy individual. The investigation showed that 16th century Palanga was an economically strong settlement, which had commercial ties with the Baltic Sea ports of Elbląg and Rīga.
