ENIn 2008, 97 m2 was excavated at the site where a basement is being built in the S part of the Anykščiai Cultural Centre building at A. Baranausko Square 2 in the part N of Anykščiai Old Town. In it were found a 0.5–1.3 m thick 17th–19th-century old town cultural layer with wheel thrown glazed and unglazed pottery, stove tile, and glass fragments, iron nails, a 1748 Russian coin (a denga), and animal bones. A dump containing ‘pot-shaped’ (Topfkachel) stove tiles was found in the part W of the excavated area. The layer in the central part was destroyed in the first half of the 20th century by a stone basement.
