Šilmikių senkapis

LT2008 m. buvo ištirtas 104 m2 plotas, surasti 9 XVI–XVII a. kapai, 6 anksčiau iškastos ir perlaidotos kaukolės. Toje vietoje buvo pastatyti du kryžiai – išliko juos laikiusios akmenų krūsnys ir vieno kryžiaus medienos likučiai [p. 167].

ENIn 2008, 104 m2 were excavated in Šilmikiai old cemetery (Joniškis District) and nine 16th–17th-century graves as well as six previously dug up and reburied skulls were discovered. Two crosses had been erected at their reburial site, the stone cairns that supported them and pieces of wood having survived. The graves were discovered at a depth of 1.05–1.35m. The individuals had been buried in coffins with their heads to the W. Grave goods were found in graves 2, 4, 5, 6, and 8. Isolated finds from previously destroyed graves were collected in greater numbers. 18 coins, 7 rings with wide heads, 2 small galvanised crosses, a small knife, wooden scales with bronze decorations from a small knife, an iron buckle, and a bronze brooch were discovered. The graves were discovered on the S side of the hill while 17th–18th-century and later household pottery was found on the N side.
