Semeniškių neįtvirtintos gyvenvietės

LT2008 m. vykdyti archeologiniai tyrinėjimai Semeniškių neįtvirtintoje gyvenvietėje II (A1483), žvalgomieji tyrinėjimai šalia Semeniškių neįtvirtintos gyvenvietės I (A1482), žvalgyta šių paminklų aplinka. Tyrimai vykdyti kabeliuojamos elektros linijos vietoje. Elektros linijos kabeliavimo darbai savavališkai buvo pradėti vykdyti 2007 m. gruodžio mėnesį. Kadangi jie vykdyti neatlikus šioje vietoje būtinų archeologinių tyrimų, rezervato direkcija juos sustabdė. Iki sustabdant darbus, spėta iškasti 150 m ilgio, apie 30 cm pločio ir apie 90 cm gylio tranšėją Semeniškių neįtvirtintos gyvenvietės II teritorijoje. Tada apžiūrėjus tranšėją konstatuota, kad ties minėtos gyvenvietės P riba pažeistas iki 30 cm storio kultūrinis sluoksnis. Apžiūrint išmestas žemes, radinių neaptikta. Tranšėja užkasta ir visi darbai atidėti iki 2008 m. kovo mėnesio. Planuojant archeologinius tyrimus atsižvelgta į tai, kad minėtoje vietoje aptiktas kultūrinis sluoksnis – čia iš karto buvo atliekami išsamūs archeologiniai tyrinėjimai. Likusioje trasos dalyje buvo atliekami archeologiniai žvalgymai, o aptikus kultūrinio sluoksnio ar objektų pėdsakų – tose vietose kasti šurfai. Iš viso taip ištirtas 68 m2 plotas, išžvalgyta 735 m ilgio tranšėja [p. 81-82].

ENIn 2008 an excavation was conducted at Semeniškės unfortified settlement II (A1483), a field evaluation near Semeniškės unfortified settlement I (A1482), and a field survey in the vicinity of these sites. A total area of 68 m2 was excavated and a 735 m long ditch surveyed. Area 11 was excavated near the S boundary of Semeniškės unfortified settlement II. A cultural layer of black earth was unearthed in part of the area. It was fairly even, 15–20 cm thick, and contained sparse finds: pieces of iron slag of various sizes. The remains of an iron smelting furnace were also discovered: a 1.3 x 2.3 m diameter pit filled with black charred earth. The furnace’s clay constructions did not survive but an oval area of sterile clay, 1.5 x 0.6 m in size, located in the NE part of the pit, and burnt to redness exists at the location of its shaft. Both in the furnace’s pit and in the cultural layer without slag, only isolated finds were discovered: two small sherds of pottery with fine grained rough surfaces, half a D-shaped iron buckle, and a fragment of a copper alloy fitting. This small number of finds, especially the quantity of pottery, allows one to draw the conclusion that no intensive activity occurred in this part of the settlement except iron smelting. By using a metal detector during the investigation, three fragments of armband bracelets and a ring, showing that a so far unknown burial site should exist at the location, were discovered in the vicinity of Semeniškės unfortified settlement II.Five test pits were dug near Semeniškės unfortified settlement I. The test pits were dug at the site of pits recorded during the survey of an electric cable route. The unearthed pits contained pottery, clay daub, and animal bones dating to the 13th–14th centuries. It is possible to connect the artefacts discovered in these test pits with a 13th–14th-century farmstead about 1 km from the medieval city of Kernavė. After ploughing up a small area on the bank of the Neris bordering the S end of the settlement at Semeniškės unfortified settlement I in spring 2007, two small areas of back soil up to 5 m in diameter, which contained late brushed pottery dating to the second half of the 2nd century, were noted.
