Baltijos jūroje nuskendusio laivo 14 (W-14) žvalgomieji tyrimai

LT2005 m. karinis švedų laivas bendros su Lietuvos karinėmis jūrų pajėgomis išminavimo operacijos metu šoninės apžvalgos sonaru aptiko iki šiol nežinomą nuskendusį laivą. Sonaro duomenimis, laivo liekanų ilgis nustatytas apie 10 m, plotis – apie 3 m, jis „su stiebu, atrodo, medinis“. 2005 m. jį apžiūrėjo Karinių jūrų pajėgų narai ir informaciją perdavė BRIAI PTC. 2005 m. KU ekspedicija apžiūrėjo, nufilmavo ir nufotografavo laivo liekanas (ATL 2005 metais, V., 2006, p. 420–421). W-14 buvo keletą kartų aplankytas narų mėgėjų. Vieno tokio nardymo metu buvo ištraukta detalė vantams tvirtinti (jufersas) ir perduota BRIAI PTC. 2006 m. buvo patikslintos nuskendusio laivo koordinatės ir jo liekanos buvo dar kartą apžiūrėtos bei provizoriškai išmatuotos. Nuskendusio medinio laivo 14 (W-14) liekanos yra į PV nuo Palangos, koordinatėse N55°52’763’’; E20°57’620’’. Atstumas nuo W-14 iki kranto yra 3,66 jūrmylės, o nuo W-14 iki Palangos – 4,5 jūrmylės. Nuskendęs laivas guli lygiame smėlio dugne, šalia išplautos morenos akmenyno. Įvairaus dydžio akmenys prasideda į V nuo laivo, netoli jo dešiniojo borto [p. 483-484].

ENIn 2005, the side scan sonar of a Swedish warship working with the Lithuanian Naval Force during a mine clearance operation detected a thus far unknown sunken wreck, W-14, over 3.66 nautical miles from the shore to the SW of Palanga. It is lying on a smooth sand bottom in a N – S direction near a concentration of scoured morena. The hull is wooden. In 2009, students from KU and Nicolaus Copernicus University (Toruń, Poland) conducted an underwater archaeology training exercise here. 4 benchmarks marking out a 27 x 13 m rectangle around the wreck were driven into the bottom so that the remains and parts could be measured underwater around the wreck. The starboard structures were measured in a 13 m2 area. The cargo, railway sleepers piled in a well shape, are still inside the vessel. It is conjectured that the vessel sank in around 1870. In 2009 it was determined that the vessel had not broken in two, only that its stern has disintegrated and that its bow is smashed and lying under a layer of sand. Four anchors with wooden stocks were found near its bow while a horizontal windlass with the remains of the anchor chain lies further from the bow.
