Tyrimai Rietavo senamiestyje

LT2009 m. ISS tyrinėjo dviejose Rietavo senamiesčio vietose: palei bibliotekos pastatą Plungės gatvėje 19 ir Žemaičių gatvėje Bibliotekos pastatas Plungės gatvėje 19 yra kultūros paveldo objekto – Rietavo senamiesčio (A1830) saugomos teritorijos centrinėje dalyje, į ŠV nuo aikštės, į P nuo Plungės ir atkuriamos Daržų gatvės sankryžos. 1910 m. Rietavo plane šio pastato vietoje ir jo aplinkoje, tarp Kapų gatvės iš P pusės, Plungės gatvės iš R ir upelio, įtekančio į dvaro sodybos tvenkinį, iš ŠV pusės nurodomas bendras užstatymas. Be abejo, namas jau tuomet turėjo būti pastatytas. Tyrimai šalia bibliotekos vykdyti 5 vietose, kur ištirtas bendras 19,1 m2 plotas. Vėliau žvalgytas apie 40 m ilgio, 0,7–1 m pločio ir 50–70 cm gylio tranšėjos aplink pamatus kasimas [p. 356-357].

ENIn 2009, the ISS investigated two sites in Rietavas Old Town: beside the library building at Plungės Street 19 and on Žemaičių Street. A total of 19.1 m2 was excavated beside the library building and hand-forged and factory-made nails and horseshoe nails, a small key, a heel plate, part of a hinge, a hook, and fragments of roof tiles and a few thrown clay, faience, and glass vessels dating to the 18th–20th centuries were discovered. Two test pits (a total of 7.35 m2) were excavated at the E – NE end of Žemaičių Street. They contained street paving or paving fragments from three periods, old layers of road surface (one of which consisted of coniferous branches), postholes – the remains of a former fence – on the street’s edge, two drainage ditches, and part of a third. The cultural layer contained coins, hand-forged nails and other construction materials, buttons, heel plates, and fragments of stove tiles, thrown ceramics, glass vessels, and window glass dating to the 16th–18th centuries.
