ENThe Tytuvėnai Bernardine monastery (Kelmė District) was built in 1614–1639. In the late 17th – mid-18th century the church and monastery were repaired – reconstructed. During 1961–1965 the monastery was repaired and the interior destroyed. 155.4 m2 were excavated inside the monastery. During the excavation, the level of the floors in the rooms was determined and a rainwater channel for draining water from the monastery’s inner courtyard was found. The location of a former hypocaust-type furnace was determined in the refectory. Fragments of former floors and the foundation of a baking oven were found in the kitchen and bakery rooms. On the monastery’s first floor the firebox and the location of heating furnaces were established and mid-18th-century stove tile fragments were discovered. Sherds of 17th-century household pottery were found in waterproofing the outside of the monastery’s foundation. A 15–20 cm layer of grey humus characteristic of a forest had formed at this site prior to the monastery’s construction.
