Summary / Abstract:

LTKalnuvėnų kapinynas (A1652, unikalus kodas 26637) (Klaipėdos r.) aptiktas 2001 m. rudenį (ATL 2001 metais, V., 2002, p. 245), o tyrinėjamas nuo 2002 m. (žr. ATL 2002 metais, V., 2005, p. 103–105; ATL 2003 metais, V., 2005, p. 128; ATL 2004 metais, V., 2006, p. 105–107; ATL 2005 metais, V., 2006, p. 116–118; ATL 2006 metais, V., 2007, p. 154–157; ATL 2007 metais, V., 2008, p.184–188; ATL 2008 metais, V., 2009, p. 122–126). Iš viso ištirtas 890,65 m2 dydžio plotas, kuriame aptikti 74 griautiniai ir 3 degintiniai VIII–XI a. kapai, 2 stulpavietės ir surinkti 595 archeologiniai radiniai, dalis kurių priskiriama senajam geležies amžiui (II–V a.) [p. 120].

ENIn 2009 the excavation of Kalnuvėnai cemetery (Klaipėda District) continued in the part disturbed the most during the earthwork. An area 80 m2 in size (trenches 23 and 24) was excavated and 12 inhumations, 1 posthole, and 16 finds were discovered. All of the burials had been badly damaged during the earthwork. Their upper parts had been destroyed and only from the lower part, from 3–8 to 12–27 cm thick, survived. The metal artefacts (a bronze ring, a fragment of a twisted wire neck-ring, a coil bead, and a fragment of an unidentified iron artefact) are in very bad condition and severely corroded. Only fragments of the majority of them have survived. It would appear that the grave goods (ornaments and ceramics) were broken during the funeral rites and only part of the broken items thrown into the grave. The part of the cemetery excavated in 2009 dates to the 10th–11th centuries.
