Žvalgomieji tyrimai Priekulėje, Turgaus aikštėje

LT2010 m. Klaipėdos r. savivaldybės užsakymu maždaug 35 a dydžio Turgaus aikštėje buvo iškasti 5 2x2 m dydžio šurfai. Šurfuose aptikti XX a. supiltiniai sluoksniai, XIX–XX a. pradžios kultūrinis sluoksnis galbūt su pavieniais XVIII a. radiniais bei II-III a. datuojamu pusmėnulio formos bronziniu kabučiu. Šis dirbinys į XIX–XX a. pradžios kultūrinį sluoksnį galėjo pakliūti iš suardyto romėniško periodo kapo. Tikėtina, kad kapinynas buvęs Turgaus aikštės vietoje arba kažkur toliau, o priešistorinis dirbinys į Turgaus aikštę pakliuvo kartu su kasamu smėliu. Jokių aikštės grindinio pėdsakų nepastebėta-jis buvo išardytas XX a. II pusėje. Išlieka tikimybė, kad vykdant didesnius tyrimus aikštėje bus aptikti buvusių dvaro ar kitų pastatų, galbūt ir geležies amžiaus kapinyno liekanos. [...] [p. 373, 375].

ENIn 2010, at the order of Klaipėda district municipality, five 2x2 m test pits were excavated in the roughly 3500 m2 Turgaus square in Priekulė. The test pits contained 20th century fill layers, a 19th early 20th century cultural layer sometimes with isolated 18th century finds (including buttons, and a 2nd–3rd century crescent-shaped bronze pendant. This artefact could have gotten into the 19th early 20th century cultural layer from a destroyed Roman era burial. It is likely that the cemetery was at the site of the Turgaus square or somewhere further away and the prehistoric artefact reached the Turgaus square together with sand that was brought in. No traces of the square’s paving were noticed as it had been removed in the second half of the 20th century. The probability remains that in conducting larger excavations in the square, the remains of the former manor or other buildings and perhaps the remains of an iron age cemetery will be discovered.
