Kernavės senovės gyvenvietės ir miesto archeologiniai tyrimai magnetinių anomalijų vietose
Alternative Title:
Investigation of the Kernavė old settlements and city at the sites of magnetic anomalies
Summary / Abstract:

Plotuose 3 ir 4 aptikti XIII–XIV a. datuojami objektai. Radiniai perduoti KKRD Kernavės archeologijos ir istorijos muziejui. [...] [p. 83, 86].

ENIn 2010, an investigation was conducted at Kernavė on the basis of the project ‘the development of the landscape according to archaeological and natural science data’ that is being carried out by the KKRD together with the LII and VU. In the course of this project, a field survey was conducted on the grounds of the state cultural reserve of Kernavė using a magnetometer. Over the course of five days geophysicists from kiel university surveyed 17 ha. The main goal for conducting the investigation was to ascertain what kind of objects can be identified using a geophysical survey and in general what information it can provide about the structure of the settlements. Four areas: three 25 m2 in size and one 53.5 m2 (a total of 128.5 m2) were excavated at the sites of the clearest magnetic anomalies in 2010. The areas were excavated near the neris on the grounds of the Kernavė old settlement and the Kernavė old city site in the Pajauta valley finds from various periods: the stone, iron, and middle ages were encountered in all of the excavated areas. The majority of the iron age finds: early ceramics with rough and brushed surfaces and blackware, can be dated to the old iron age. The objects discovered in area 1 probably also date to the first half of the 1st millennium. Objects, which should be dated to the 13th–14th centuries and in which partly thrown ceramics predominated, were discovered in areas 3 and 4. the conducted investigation showed that anomalies visible in the magnetogram precisely correspond to objects that are actually under the earth. The anomalies fairly well show the object’s size, shape, and magnetic intensity. The investigation this year was oriented more to larger anomalies, it being interesting to check them as objects of this size have not been encountered in the investigations at Kernavė up until now.
