Summary / Abstract:

ENFor researchers and collectors of bonistics about 1920 Vilnius paper money has been known for a long time. These are tickets of Vilnius banks of four denominations – 1, 5, 10, 20 Polish marks. However, the circumstances of their appearance are not yet undescribed. This money of the issue January 31, 1920 was put into circulation on March 15, and it had to be in circulation until December 1, 1920. It is probable that due to the changed political circumstances, this money may have lost its value earlier, but until July 15, they were definitely circulation. The money was printed in J. Zavadski printing house in Vilnius. A total of 1 mark – 23,988 units, 5 marks – 1,472 units, 10 marks – 18,165 units, 20 marks – 15,806 units were printed. The issuance of this money was due to the lack of small Polish money and the desire to make the Polish mark the main means of payment. The new money was allocated not only to the residents of Vilnius, but also to the residents of the surrounding area. Keywords: Vilnius, mark, paper money, bank.
