Žvalgomieji tyrimai Virbalyje

LTVirbalio miestelyje 2012 m. suprojektuotų inžinerinių tinklų vietose Birutės, Kauno, Ku dirkos Naumiesčio, Laisvės, Maironio, Raudondvario, Paviržupės, Smėlio, Vištyčio, Vydūno, Vytauto, Žalgirio gatvėse, kurios patenka į Virbalio miestelio istorinį centrą (UK 17125) ir Virbalio senojo miesto vietą (UK 20557), buvo atlikti žvalgomieji archeologiniai tyrimai. Ištirti 92 šurfai ir viena 5x1,3 m dydžio perkasa (iš viso 101,5 m2). Po tyrimų suinventorinti 659 radiniai saugomi Vilkaviškio krašto muziejuje. 2012 m. tyrimų metu nustatyta, kad Smėlio gatvėje archeologiškai vertingas kultūrinis sluoksnis nesusiformavęs. Čia fiksuotas 0,31,4 m storio XIX–XX a. kultūrinis sluoksnis su pavienėmis žiestų puodų šukėmis. Fiksuoti griu venų sluoksniai sietini su XIX a. pabaigos-XX a. I pusės statiniais, kurie buvo sugriauti II Pasaulinio karo metu. Birutės gatvės dalyje iki sankryžos su Vilniaus gatve fiksuotas 1–1,8 m storio XVII–XX a. kultūrinis sluoksnis. Gatvės P dalyje jis neintensyvus ir maišytas ankstesnių grunto kasimo darbų metu. Šurfe 31 po XIX–XX a. I pusės grindiniu fiksuotas neintensyvus XVII–XVIII a. kultūrinio sluoksnio horizontas. Šurfuose 32, 33 fiksuoti griuvenų ir miestelio atstatymo metu suardyti sluoksniai su pavieniais XVII–XVIII a. radiniais. [...] [p. 551-553].

ENIn 2012, an evaluation (92 test pits and one 5x1.3 m trench, a total of 101.5 m2) was conducted at the sites of planned utility lines on Birutės, Kauno, Kudirkos Naumiesčio, Laisvės, Maironio, Raudondvario, Paviržupės, Smėlio, Vištyčio, Vydūno, Vytauto, and Žalgirio streets, which are in the historic town centre of Virbalis and the site of the old town. No archaeologically valuable cultural layer was discovered on Laisvės, Smėlio, or Vydūno Streets or Kauno, Laisvės, or Vytauto alleys. A 0.3 m (S side of the street)-1.7 m (central carriageway) thick, 17th–19th century cultural layer was found on Vištyčio Street, a 1–1.8 m thick, 17th–20th century cultural layer on Birutės street to the intersection with Vilniaus street, a 0.5–1.4 m thick, 16th–20th century cultural layer in the Maironio street section to the intersection with Vilniaus street, a 0.3–2 m thick, 16th–20th century cultural layer on Vytauto street, a 0.5–1.6 m thick, 17th–20th century cultural layer on Kauno street, a 0.7–1.8 m thick, 18th–20th century mixed cultural layer with few traces of human activity on Žalgirio street, and a 60–90 cm thick, 16th–20th century cultural layer on Kudirkos Naumiesčio street. A 16th–17th century cultural layer horizon connected with one of the town’s fires was discovered at a depth of 40–80 cm in the test pits. A 0.6–1 m thick 19th–20th century mixed cultural layer with few traces of human activity and several isolated 18th century potsherds was recorded on Raudondvario street. Six 16th–17th century burials without grave goods were unearthed in the trench. Church land with a cemetery existed at the site of the present-day park according to a mid 16th century inventory. The individuals had been in terred supine, in a SE–NW direction, and in board coffins. The arms were bent and placed in the abdomina area.Two burial horizons were distinguished. The located old cemetery attests that the town planning and street network has changed somewhat since the 16th–17th century: a cemetery probably existed at the site of the present-day street, and the street itself could have been somewhat further E of the present-day one.
