Summary / Abstract:

LT2012 m. Jurbarko dvaro teritorijoje išlikusiame dvaro parke šalia esamų ir naujai projektuojamų pėsčiųjų ir dviračių takų vietų ištirti 28 šurfai ir 2 žvalgomosios perkasos. Bendrai ištirtas 80 m2 dydžio plotas, surasta 140 radinių. Didžiąją jų dalį sudaro XVII–XVIII a. buitinių keraminių indų fragmentai. 87). [...] [p. 278].

ENIn 2012, 28 test pits and two trial trenches (a total of 80 m2) were excavated on the grounds of Jurbarkas manor (city of Jurbarkas, W Lithuania). A 0.4–2.15 m thick cultural layer of varying richness has formed on the grounds of the manor’s park. The bulk of the finds consist of sherds of 17th–18th century household pottery vessels. A new stone age settlement, unknown up until now, was found in the N part of the manor complex. The S edge of a stone structure was unearthed at a depth of 40 cm in the N part of the manor’s park. This stone structure recalls a 16th century pottery kiln previously discovered in the E part of the Jurbarkas Manor site. A 17th century cultural layer with an abundance of sherds of household pottery vessels was discovered from a depth of 20 cm in the E part of the manor complex beside an existing path (test pit 18). The thickest, up to 2.15 m thick, and least valuable layers were excavated in the W part of the manor’s park, on the left bank of the Mituva. The surface of the present-day riverside was probably formed when the park was being put in order. The location of the building marked on the 1907 plan of the manor was identified in the SW part of the 20th century riverside (test pit 1). The perimeter of the exterior walls was determined at the site of the former 19th-century manor palace. It was stated that in demolishing the remains of the palace, the foundation was also demolished in places. Parts of the E and W avant-corps and the E and W wall foundations have survived intact.Impressions of the square floor tiles have survived on the floor foundation. The large quantities of broken plaster, stone tiles, and ceramic tiles assigned to the palace period were discovered during the investigation of the interior rooms. A fragment of stone paving and a dry fieldstone foundation from a wooden building (?) were unearthed under the palace’s ground floor. This is part of a structure that stood there until the mid 19th century. Two stair landings and a brick path were unearthed in the N part of the palace. It is conjectured that this is the site of the servants’ entrance in the palace’s former N wing (annex). The remains of the foundation of the palace’s N wall to the S of the stair landing were not found. It is possible to think that the ground’s surface that existed in the 20th century was lowered in the N part of the palace, and that there were more entrance stair landings in the 20th century than the two that have survived. The same situation exists in the S part of the palace, where a park path was laid in the 20th century at a similar altitude. The location of the palace’s N stairs almost corresponds to the data from the 1907 plan. Thus the perimeter of the exterior walls of the vanished N and S wings was determined on the basis of a symmetrical building plan, which is characteristic of the neoclassical era.
