Summary / Abstract:

LT2012 m. rugpjūčio 16–24 d. buvo atliekami detalieji archeologiniai tyrimai Paūdronių kapinyne (Šalčininkų r.) (UK 36748). Kapinynas datuojamas XIV–XV a. Viduramžių epochos kaimo bendruomenių laidojimo paminklai Pietryčių Lietuvoje yra labai reti ir menkai ištirti, todėl tikslingi tolesni Paūdronių kapinyno tyrimai. [...] [p. 212, 219].

ENIn 2012 an excavation was conducted in Paūdronys cemetery (Šalčininkai district), which had not been included in the NKVR until 2012. That summer it was learned from the local inhabitants that a burial site was being destroyed in Paūdronys village where digging sand and gravel in an arbitrarily created quarry turned up human bones. An excavation was hurriedly organised. Three trenches (230 m2) were excavated in the cemetery and 36 inhumations discovered. Many of them were found at a depth of 40–60 cm. Due to the soil’s qualities (gravelly sand) almost all of the grave pit contours were indistinct. The human remains discovered in many of the burials were badly disintegrated. All of the individuals had been interred in an extended supine position, the absolute majority (35 of 36) with the head to the W (230–300°, mainly 270°). Only in burial 30 was the head to the S (180°). Grave goods were discovered in many of the burials. An abundance of finds were discovered in the burials and as chance finds on the cemetery’s grounds: nine silver GDL coins dating to the late 14th–15th centuries, knives, buckles, loops, awls, part of a bronze key, and fragments of purses with bronze and iron fittings. Ornaments were also discovered: rings, flat brooches, a fragment of a bronze chaplet plate, part of a bronze chain, and an enamel penannular brooch dating to the 2nd century. Paūdronys cemetery was dated to the 14th–15th century.
