Kauno senosios kapinės Vytauto prospekte

LTLR krašto apsaugos ministerijos kanclerio 2011 m. lapkričio 15 d. pavedimu VDKM Archeologijos skyriaus darbuotojai kartu su Juozo Vitkaus inžinerinio bataliono kariais 2012 m. balandžio–gegužės mėnesiais vykdė senųjų neveikiančių kapinių (UK 21117), esančių Kauno Š dalyje, tarp Vytauto prospekto, Totorių, Trakų ir Bažnyčios gatvių, žvalgomuosius tyrimus. Jų tikslas – išsiaiškinti senosiose neveikiančiose kapinėse palaidoto generolo S. Žukausko palaikų buvimo vietą, jei jie giminių nebuvo perlaidoti. Generolo S. Žukausko kapo paieškos pradėtos dar 1991 m. Apklausiami liudininkai nurodė apytikslę kapo vietą, tačiau jų parodymai skyrėsi. 2012 m. sausį–vasarį surinkus papildomą informaciją apie galimą generolo palaidojimo vietą, apklausus liudytojus, pasitelkus visuomenę, nuspręsta ieškant kapo vietos atlikti nedestrukcinius 3D tyrimus georadaru, o lokalizavus galimą palaidojimo vietą atlikti žvalgomuosius archeologinius tyrimus. Žinoma, kad generolas S. Žukauskas palaidotas metaliniame karste su Lietuvos kariuomenės ulonų generolo uniforma. Šie atributai galėtų padėti identifikuoti palaikus. [...] [p. 207-208].

ENBy order of the Chancellor of the Ministry of National Defence of the republic of Lithuania, in 2012 the VDKM together with soldiers of the Juozas Vitkus Engineer Battalion conducted a field evaluation in an old closed cemetery in the N part of Kaunas. Their goal was to determine where the remains of General S. Žukauskas were interred in this cemetery, if they had not been reinterred by his relatives. The investigation occurred in two stages: a non-destructive 3D geophysical (a 30x80 m area being surveyed using georadar) and an interventional field evaluation (seven trenches, (a total of 80 m2) being excavated). Six undisturbed burials were discovered. After checking the surviving unravaged burial sites with a metal detector, no larger metal concentrations were detected in any of them, which would allow the assumption to be made that it could be the grave of Gen. S. Žukauskas. Therefore it was not expedient to excavate the trenches down to sterile soil or to excavate the grave pits. After recording all of the discovered burials, the trenches were backfilled.
