ENThis book (Interpretations: Postmodernism, Visual Culture, Fine Art) places my texts published in different culture and art issues of the last decade. The selections are related to each other in an effort to reflect the dynamic changes of the social, cultural and arts environment and also identify the variety of theoretical neologisms resulted by these changes. Relatively recent shifts in Lithuanian political, social and cultural formations were followed by important processes of socio-cultural separation and unification. The latest ones predetermined new tendencies in Lithuanian fine arts and drew directions for their interpretation. First of all, obvious efforts of Lithuanian humanitarian circles have been made to adopt the postmodern Western culture, take over the models of postmodern world-view and make use of its theoretical modifications. Lithuanian world of arts found itself in front of the option and the necessity to learn, utilize and create the laws of capitalist consumer society, the laws, which, in their own turn, urged the creation of newly different concepts as for the author, the creative activity, the audience, the art institution, the theory of art, and called for adaptation of such concepts to the specific local conditions, as well as demanded adequate signification of the changing surrounding. As mentioned before, the texts included in this book is an effort, from the perspective of time, to reflect the above and demonstrate the development of local arts in a wider cultural and artistic context. These selections are thematically united by the expression of disappointment with theories of traditional and modern culture and art, also - by a sincere aim to reveal personal experience in changing subjectivity from the perspective of psychoanalysis, post-structuralism and theories of deconstruction.Relying on the experience of an Art Critic, I also sought to identify the essential developments of postmodern, technologically determined consumer society of visual images and provide the reader with the historical and cultural context of numerous technologies and their unavoidable interaction with the human nature. From the first glance, all those attempts might look slightly ambitiuos. In fact, they are ambitiuos. But it may help the reader to have a look more objectively to the confusion of the last decade, which was brought by different turning points and by impossible choice to live and feel according to the principles of yesterday, as well as by lack of new, distinct ways of thinking. In this sense, each text in this book is marked not only with personal, but also with more common human confusion in the particular time and place, of course. In my opinion, this book is really useful as a capture of the time space, which is opened for changes, as a passion of searching thought, which moves through these time changes, and as an urgency to create one“s own time, too. This anxiety served as a driving force to compose the book. It consists of the four main subjects matters: the Strategies of Postmodernism, the Identity, the History of Arts and the Intertextuality. I have selected only several texts, which, in my opinion, offer the closets approach to these subjects. These selections are part of the context of numerous theoretical and methodological discussions, held and published in variuos culture and art issues of the last decade (“Krantai”, “Kultūros barai”, “Literatūra ir menas”, etc.). The text, being out of the context, seem to diminish the importance of its primary purpose, but as a whole book, texts altogether, most trully reflect the main common principle - an integration of Lithuanian culturological and artistic discourse into postmodern intertextuality. In other words, there are more questions than answers in this book, there is more relativity than lucidity, more motion than static position, and also - more traces of body and image than bare text.
