Mindaugių kapinyno paieškos

LTDar tarpukariu Mindaugių kaime (Joniškio r.) buvo žinomos dvi vietos, vadinamos kapeliais-taip nurodoma 1935 m. Lietuvos žemės vardyno anketoje. Peržvelgus šaltinius ir istoriografiją matyti, kad Mindaugiuose laidojimo paminklai buvo lokalizuojami 3 vietose. Šalia kairiojo Virčiuvio kranto minimas senkapis, vadinamas Kapeliais; apie 80 m atkarpoje nuo dešiniojo Virčiuvio kranto, kur šiuo metu ir yra saugoma Mindaugių kapinyno teritorija, nurodomi Švedkapiai (Švedkapis, Švedija), ir ne visai aišku, kaip atsirado trečioji Mindaugių kapinyno vieta-250 m į V nuo kairiojo Virčiuvio kranto. Ji 1977 m. buvo įtraukta į paminklų sąrašą kaip tie patys Švedkapiai, tačiau gana greitai lokalizacija sukritikuota ir jos atsisakyta. Būtent šioje vietoje galbūt dėl seno kultūros paminklo ženklo likučių vietiniai gyventojai mano esant tikrąją kapinyno vietą. Tai, kad laidojimo paminkluose iki šiol nebuvo atlikti archeologiniai tyrimai, o tik žvalgyta, neleido nustatyti tikrųjų kapinynų vietų. Todėl šį klausimą tikėtasi išspręsti 2015 m. žvalgymų ir žvalgomųjų tyrimų metu. [...] [p. 449].

ENIn 2015, ten trenches (a total of 100 m2 ) were excavated at three locations of Mindaugiai (Joniškis district, N Lithuania) burial sites. 31 725 m2 were surveyed with a metal detector. Five of the trenches were excavated in the protected territory of Mindaugiai cemetery, also known as Švedkapiai, but no cemetery related finds were discovered. 17th century coins and other 19th-20th century finds, which could have found their way into the soil from an old cemetery at this location, were discovered on the grounds of a second cemetery known as Kapeliai. A chaplet plate, which could have come from a 6th-8th century flat cemetery, was likewise found but the three trenches excavated at this location contained no finds related to a burial site. At the third site, which is marked by a NKVR sign erected in 1977, 17th century coins and other 19th-20th century finds were discovered, which allows one to assume that a cemetery once existed at this location. The two trenches excavated during the evaluation failed to confirm the fact of the cemetery’s existence. An intensive layer of black soil with signs of a cultural layer but no finds was recorded at this location. Larger scale evaluations would be expedient in the future only in the vicinity of the chaplet plate and 17th century coin find spots.
