(ATL 2014 metais, V., 2015, p. 388–389). ENA field evaluation was conducted near the foundation of one of the buildings of the 18th-19th century Franciscan monastery building complex being renovated in the W part of Vilnius old town and a monitoring watch was conducted in digging up the foundation in order to reinforce it and in installing new underground utility lines. During the evaluation, a 4.75 m2 test pit was excavated near the foundation of an 18th century masonry building in the N part of the L shape in the complex’s plan. An effort was made to check what cultural layer exists in this part of the plot and to determine the nature and condition of the foundation. It was determined that the cultural layer at this location is 1.7–3.2 m thick and dates to the 14th(?)-20th centuries. The remains of wooden structures were discovered in the earliest cultural layer horizon in the N part of the test pit while pits dug into natural soil or ditch fill were excavated in the S part of the test pit. The remains of a similar object set into natural soil were discovered in 2003 in the plot at Trakų St. 2. It is thought that this is part of a 14th-15th century defensive ditch. Roughly 205 m2 were surveyed and the situation known from earliest investigations on the plot was checked. Three stone paving levels, the earliest dating to the 16th century, the latest to the late 19th first half of the 20th century, were discovered. The arched foundations of the buildings being reconstructed were exposed, the remains of a partially demolished 17th century stove found, and a relatively small number of finds collected. The investigation on this plot is foreseen to be continued in the future.
