ENThe article looks at Zygmunt Gloger’s life and achievement as the exemplifications of the romantic-positivistic mindset. As is argued, the 19th-century writer was, in a way, a romantic living during the time of so-called Polish positivism. Put differently, Gloger can be called a neo-philomath of his times. Out of the main ideas of the Philomaths Society, the writer from Podlasie valued mainly patriotism and love of knowledge.
